Today marks the 55 year anniversary of the murder of Emmett Till at the hands of white racists down in Money, Mississippi. Till was shot and beaten to death for allegedly "whistling at a white woman." Emmett Till was just 14 years old at the time of his death. Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam (the main suspects in the murder), were acquitted by a jury of (12 white men) their peers.
Till's badly beaten and shot body was brought back home to Chicago for burial. During the funeral services, Till's mother, Mamie Till-Mobley courageously insisted on an open casket to "show the world" what they did to her child. to view pictures of Emmett Till's funeral go to
