*UPDATE IN THE JENNIFER HUDSON FAMILY MURDERS*
William Balfour, suspect in the Jennifer Hudson Family murders appeared in court today, June 24, 2010. The name "Ms. Cathey" surfaced for the first time in the proceedings as a witness for the prosecution. The defense asked for a leave to file a motion for discovery deposition of "Ms. Cathey." It was revealed in court that "Ms Cathey" (Balfour's girlfriend at the time of the murders), submitted evidence "orally" to the prosecution and is the prosecution's essential witness.
The prosecution argued that there is no need for the defense to conduct a discovery deposition of "Ms. Cathey" stating anything the defense need to know about "Ms. Cathey" they can ask their client (Balfour).
The defense (public defenders), cited Supreme Court Rule 416 in support of their argument. Judge Lawrence Fox ruling on discovery deposition of "Ms. Cathey" continued by agreement to a week from today.
