My featured photos of the year are the following pictures of Rihanna and Chris Brown. I chose Rihanna and Chris Brown because of the contrasting images displayed by the then couple after the infamous beat down which made headlines around the world and which only goes to show you that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Jennifer Hudson Removed from Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival Line-Up

The Jamaica Observer is reporting that J-Hud has been removed from the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival line-up and has been replaced by singer Erykah Badu. J-Hud was scheduled to appear at the Kingston, Jamaica music festival the week of January 24 - 30, 2010. The Jamaica Observer further states that:

"We're disappointed that Jennifer cannot perform at the festival. She was asked by Clive Davis to give a special performance during the tribute that the Grammy's will be staging in his honour, and were she to perform here at the festival, she wouldn't be able to attend the rehearsals and get the preparatory work completed in time for that special performance," said Walter Elmore, executive producer of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

In addition, the Star Magazine reported yesterday that Jennifer Hudson is pregnant with her second child.

Star magazine is reporting that Chicago's own Jennifer Hudson is pregnant with child number two (2) within four (4) months of giving birth to her first child David Jr. Star magazine reported that J-Hud was in "total shock" to discover that she was pregnant again and that "She had wanted some space between the kids' ages."

BEYONCE KNOWLES AND DESTINY'S CHILD SETTLES COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT CASE BROUGHT ON BY SONGWRITER RICKEY ALLEN

Singer Beyonce Knowles had been scheduled to appear in a Chicago federal courtroom to answer questions in regards to a copyright infringement case has reached a settlement.

The case was brought on against Beyonce and Destiny's Child by Chicago songwriter Rickey Allen back in 2006. The song at issue is titled 'Cater 2 U' written my Mr. Allen and first copyrighted back in the mid 1990's. Mr. Allen performed the song locally and continued to maintain the copyright as recently as the year 2000.

In 2004 Destiny's Child released a song also called 'Cater 2 U.' U.S. District Judge James Holderman had scheduled the trial for December 10, 2009 in regards to the copyright claim.

Beyonce who was recently nominated for 10 Grammys related to her 'I am...Sash Fierce album and who is also credited as songwriter on some of the songs has reached a settlement in the copyright infringement case with Chicago songwriter Rickey Allen with terms of the settlement to remain confidential.

Singer/Humanitarian Alicia Keys is set to launch a contest through her charity 'Keep a Child Alive' that will give five lucky winners the chance to visit Africa. Keys is set to announce the contest Tuesday, December 1, which is World AIDS Day during her concert at the Nokia Theatre in New York, which will air live on YouTube at 7:00 p.m. CST/8:00 p.m. EST. Alicia will perform songs from her upcoming Album 'The Elements of Freedom' which drops December 15, 2009

Jennifer Hudson Family Murders Update

Defendant William Balfour appeared in court yesterday September 30, 2009 in regards to the Hudson Family murders. The case appears to be moving right along with the attorneys continuing with discovery. The defense is requesting a jury trial. I will be posting a full report of the preliminary hearings and trial as they occur.

Smokey Robinson 'Time flies when you're having fun' album review.

This album by Smokey is a good one. Classic Smokey through and through. Nice duets with Santana, Joss and India.Arie. Smokey stayed true to himself, his music and what his fans have come to know. Not like a lot of these others who change their style disappointing the very same fans who bought their previous music expecting the same. The man's still got it. I highly recommend!

Jennifer Hudson Family Murders Update

IN THE CASE OF WILLIAM BALFOUR

August 18, 2009 at 10:10 a.m. William Balfour, defendant in the Jennifer Hudson family murders appeared in court today. Defendant wore a prison issued beige D.O.C. uniform and short cropped hairstyle. Defendant was surrounded by guards as he stood before the judge.

Defendant Balfour did not speak and appeared polite and respectful to the judge and his court appointed public defenders. A large cart containing files were wheeled into the court. The defendant's public defenders asked for a continuation to conduct additional discovery. Judge Lawrence Fox granted the defense motion. Next scheduled court date for William Balfour is September 30, 2009.

Is Jennifer Hudson married yet?

As of this day, still no news of a wedding between Jennifer Hudson and her baby's daddy David "Punk" Otunga. One would think that a wedding would have taken place by now being as the baby is due any day now. How embarrassing for Jennifer to have her water break while standing at the altar. That would be calling it close, don't ya' think?

I was able to see and hear Fantasia and her mom Diane perform at the 2009 Chicago Gospel Music Festival and let me tell you...Fantasia OWNS the stage. What a truly amazing performance by a very gifted entertainer. FANTASIA ROCKS!!!...and Mom ain't short-stopping! Donnie McClurkin ministering to the fans...what a father figure to those in need!

Chicago's Own Singer Koko Taylor Dies At 80 Years Old

I met Koko at her nightclub here in Chicago. She was extremely polite, friendly and humble. A very nice lady. I offered to buy her a cognac (which was what I was sipping), but she turned me down stating "I gave up drinking many years ago." I insisted on buying her a soda instead and she finally accepted. She sat down right next to me at the bar and we enjoyed a nice conversation about the amateur blues bands that were playing at the open mike that night at her club.

I am so sad to hear about her passing. She was truly a kind and humble person. R.I.P. MS. KOKO! Below, Koko performing her signature song.
